That was the year that was...

It's been an eventful year to say the least. For a guy from Kidderminster I have been incredibly lucky at times and have done things I would never have believed possible. It started with sending off two episodes of a script I helped write with two other guys to six production companies/producers. Amazingly we had replies from three- all very positive, but none that wanted to pursue it further, but they were interested in any other ideas we might have. One of the companies even invited us down to London for a chat. (Thanks Maria!) That was an incredibly surreal, but amazing experience.
Sadly, due to one thing and another, that part has stalled somewhat. But, away from writing with the team I have continued to work on my own things. I've had a bash at topical comedy writing, even though it isn't really my field of expertise, however I'm happy that I have definitely improved on this the more I have written. So much so that I made the Newsjack script twice, but sadly not the final edit, and eventually got a joke onto BBC Scotland's Breaking the News programme, which was an unbelievable buzz.
I also finally got around to writing the pilot of a show I'd been talking about for years. The feedback I have had so far from this has been incredibly positive. I appreciate that this has only been from friends and family currently, but I am absolutely chuffed with the way it has been received. I took the bold step of submitting it to a competition, so the potential for feedback from two people I really respect is a distinct possibility. Keep those fingers crossed for me towards the end of January!
What's in store for 2020? I have no idea if I'm honest. I'm going to keep on writing more and more and hopefully I will continue to improve. And, with a bit of luck, the right person might read something I did and be interested in seeing what else I can do. Now all I need is a small lottery win so I can do this full time, rather than have to go to work for 40 hours a week. Imagine how much more I could get written if I had that kind of time!?
So farewell 2019, bring on the roaring twenties! x
